No agreement on common path with Manfred Schmid

FK Austria Wien is undergoing a period of economic and sporting upheaval and has decided on a sporting reorientation which should make it possible to be a top address in Austrian football again in the long term.

As with every football club, economic success depends to a large extent on sporting success. To this end, we have analysed the autumn season as well as the results of the fighting team in the Bundesliga, Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League together in detail. The analysis shows a need for action in some areas in order to achieve our sporting goals.

In a comprehensive and joint process, the FK Austria Wien management developed and integrated a game vision and a cultural mission statement, which are implemented and lived by all teams.

Unfortunately, in several analyses we found differences of opinion on essential sporting issues. Against this background, talks with Manfred Schmid about a common sporting future and a contract extension unfortunately failed today, Monday. As a result, both parties have mutually agreed to go their separate ways in the future.

In agreement with the responsible supervisory board of FK Austria Wien AG, it was agreed with Manfred Schmid that he will be released from his duties as coach as of today. FK Austria Wien AG has instructed the sporting management to start looking for a coach immediately.

Manfred Schmid: "The management of Austria Wien has decided that they want to see a certain type of football in the future. That's absolutely fine, but I'm not the right coach for that because I don't stand behind it with full conviction. But since I don't want to be a coach with an expiry date either, it's best for all sides to terminate the contract immediately. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my players, the many fans, the staff and all those responsible at the club. Together we have celebrated wonderful successes in these one and a half years, which I myself hardly thought possible."

Gerhard Krisch: "We would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Manfred Schmid for his commitment and wish him all the best on his future path as coach."
