Braunöder joined the blue-and-whites from Lake Como on loan at the end of January 2024. He made his debut in the Italian Serie B on 3 February away at Ternana. The Austrian U21 captain made his first appearance in Como's starting XI in the 30th round at home to Pisa on 16 March - and he would not relinquish his place in the eight games that followed until the end of the season. Braunöder played a total of 13 games in the spring for Como, who remained unbeaten with him in the starting eleven.

Matthias Braunöder progressed through the Violets' entire youth programme and academy from 2011, fighting his way through the Young Violets (41 games in the 2nd division) to the professionals, for whom he made his debut in January 2021 and played 97 matches until December 2023.

"Austria is my club and always will be", said Braunöder in January. He continued: "I think now is the right time for me to take the step abroad. At Como 1907, I have the opportunity to assert myself in Italy and achieve promotion to Serie A. Thank you Austria for giving me this opportunity."

Sporting Director Manuel Ortlechner: "We are delighted for Motz and are proud that an Austria kid has made it in Italy and will be able to play in Serie A next season. Of course, his departure was and is not easy for the club, but he absolutely wanted to make this move to Como in the winter and has made the most of his opportunity. He is a role model for all graduates of our academy who want to present themselves for a top league via Austria Wien."
