Our new head coach: Michael Wimmer

Michael Wimmer is the new head coach of Austria Wien.

Daniel Shaked

Sports Director Manuel Ortlechner: "Michael Wimmer fits our requirements profile perfectly. He wants to play a type of football that is intense, courageous, dynamic and determined. He is also aware of the club's history and has shown great desire for Austria Wien and working with our young players in the talks. Michael Wimmer wants to continue what we have started. He knows what we intend to do with our talents and wants to play his part in our success. That's why he's the right man."

Coach Michael Wimmer: "As a coach, dealing with people is very important to me. I find it exciting to develop young players and try out new things in training, and then see how the measures work at the weekend. I'm a coach who is actively involved and emotional during the games. I expect our players to inspire the crowd. I've seen on YouTube what can happen with Austria fans in the stands when you win games - that's where we want to go."

Michael Wimmer made his first experience as a head coach as interim coach at VfB Stuttgart in the German Bundesliga in the fall of 2022, having spent three years as Pellegrino Matarazzo's assistant coach at Stuttgart, and six months as Tim Walter's co-coach before that. Michael Wimmer has also served as an assistant coach for FC Augsburg in the German Bundesliga in the 2018/19 season. From 2010 to 2018, he coached youth teams at 1. FC Nürnberg, where he once brought our current captain Lukas Mühl into his U15 squad.

The coaching team

Michael Wimmer brings with him Ahmet Koc as assistant coach, whom we also warmly welcome to Austria. From the existing coaching team, the Violets will retain assistant coach Mark McCormick, video analyst Lorenz Kutscha-Lissberg and goalkeeper coach Udo Siebenhandl. We say goodbye to assistant coach Cem Sekerlioglu and athletic trainer Andreas Biritz. We would like to thank them for their dedication & work for Austria Wien and wish them all the best for their future.
