Fisnik Asllani's golden goal in the 24th minute secured Austria's place in the quarter-finals of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup.
Michael Wimmer made only one change in the starting eleven after the triumph at Sturm Graz. Mirko Kos was allowed to keep goal for the Veilchen instead of Christian Früchtl, as he had done in the first two Cup matches. Dominik Fitz is still ill, Lucas Galvão returned to the squad after his injury and sat on the bench.
Peter Pacult also changed his team only in one position after a 1-0 home win against WSG Tirol, Simon Straudi started in place of Solomon Bonnah at right midfield.
After an even opening phase, Austria had the first chance of the game. A cross from Manuel Polster landed with Fisnik Asllani, but his finish was too weak (8th). A corner kick by Aleksandar Jukić was dangerously headed over by Andreas Gruber, but Phillip Menzel was on the spot in the Klagenfurt goal (18.). The pressure of the home team increased and in the 24th minute the ball was in the goal. After a beautiful combination over several stations Manfred Fischer served Asllani ideally, who lofted the ball beautifully over Menzel - 1:0 for the Violets.
A shot by Fischer missed the goal (31st), on the other side Sinan Karweina had the first chance for Klagenfurt with a header. But Mirko Kos had little trouble with the ball (32.). Manuel Polster shone in midfield with a strong ball win, played ideally to Gruber, who, however, shot over the goal (35.).
Until the break, there were no more chances to score, the record cup winners went into half-time with a 1:0 lead.
Klagenfurt came out of the dressing room a little better offensively, a shot by Florian Jaritz went just wide (56.). After an hour Michi Wimmer made his first substitution, Hakim Guenouche and Matthias Braunöder came on for Polster and Jukić. A strong run by Braunöder created a chance for Asllani, whose Stanglpass to Gruber was intercepted (66.). Fifteen minutes before the end, Romeo Vučić replaced the scorer Fisnik Asllani. Marvin Potzmann started a perfect counterattack, Vučić passed to Braunöder, goalkeeper Menzel saved the Carinthians from another goal (77.).
Mirko Kos saved a long shot of the guests, in the countermove Vučić had the chance for the final decision after Reinhold Ranftl's pass, but did not hit the ball well enough (84., 85.). Alexander Schmidt and James Holland came on for Gruber and Potzmann in the final stages, but the score remained unchanged.Austria also survived the hectic injury time, remained without conceding another goal and is thus one round further.
