High-class derby ends 3:3!

Rapid took the lead through Guido Burgstaller, but Andreas Gruber and Haris Tabaković turned the game around. Rapid managed to score 2:2 through Roman Kerschbaum. Immediately after the change of ends, Denso Kasius saw red and Tabaković put the Violets back in the lead. Marco Grüll scored with a free kick to make the final score 3:3. Tabaković was shown a yellow card shortly before the end. The third match in the champions' group also ended in a spectacular draw.

Michael Wimmer made only one - forced - change after the draw in Salzburg. Manuel Polster started in a 3-5-2 system in place of the injured Doron Leidner.

Rapid started the 339th Vienna derby with three changes. Denso Kasius, Michael Sollbauer and Aleksa Pejić replaced Thorsten Schick, Martin Moormann and Patrick Greil in the starting line-up.

2:2 at half-time in a great derby

The first chances of the game were on Austria's side. Haris Tabaković tried to put the ball into the goal with his heel after a pass from Andreas Gruber, but Rapid goalkeeper Niklas Hedl was alert (6th). A shot by Tabaković after a nice combination was also saved by Hedl (8.). A header by Lukas Mühl after a free kick by Matthias Braunöder was too weak (11th).

Contrary to the course of the game, the home team took the lead, Guido Burgstaller headed in Jonas Auer's cross for 1:0 (15.). After a corner kick by Rapid, Leopold Querfeld got a header, Christian Früchtl was on the spot 25.).

The Violets quickly regained their composure after the brief moment of shock, and in minute 28 they equalised: Dominik Fitz, together with Manuel Polster and Matthias Braunöder, won the ball from Marco Grüll, played a perfect pass to Andreas Gruber, who gave Hedl no chance - 1:1. Only three minutes later the game was turned around. After a cross from Braunöder, Gruber passed the ball to Tabaković, who - of course - pocketed the ball. After 35 minutes it was 1:2.

Rapid scored again out of nowhere. Roman Kerschbaum scored with a long shot to make it 2:2, Früchtl had no chance (43rd). In the 44th minute Andreas Gruber was brought down by Sollbauer. Referee Sebastian Gishamer ruled for a penalty, but the on-field review showed that the foul had taken place just outside the penalty area. Dominik Fitz hit the bar with the free kick (45.+4). A racy derby went into the break at 2:2.

Austria took the lead again, Rapid equalised

The second half started with a bang, Denso Kasius saw the red card after a hard tackle against Reinhold Ranftl (47th). Manfred Fischer finished after a nice action over several stations - just missed (52.). Haris Tabaković failed to beat Hedl, but was just offside anyway. A little later, the Swiss tried a pull-back, the ball went over the goal (53., 56.).

Andreas Gruber had a chance after a corner by Fitz, the ball went slightly deflected over the goal (68.). Marco Grüll appeared in front of Früchtl, but the Austria goalkeeper was twice the winner. In the direct counterattack Fischer shot - over (70.).

Michael Wimmer made a change a quarter of an hour before the end: Nikola Dovedan and Aleksandar Jukić came on for Andreas Gruber and Matthias Braunöder, as they had in Salzburg. Shortly afterwards, Haris Tabaković struck again: After a double pass with Dominik Fitz, the Swiss top scorer did not miss the chance and made it 2:3 - goal number 12 of the season (78.). Immediately after the kick-off, Gishamer awarded a penalty after an alleged foul by Polster on Schick, but this scene also took place outside the penalty area.

Rapid equalised through a Marco Grüll free kick in the 83rd minute, the game really had a lot to offer. Haris Tabaković was shown a yellow card shortly before the end and Austria also had to finish the game with ten men (86th). James Holland came on for Dominik Fitz. Reinhold Ranftl shot over in the 88th minute, Früchtl saved from Burgstaller in injury time. An attack on Manfred Fischer in the penalty area was not deemed worthy of a penalty.

A spectacular Viennese derby ended in a 3-3 draw, with Austria remaining undefeated at the Allianz Stadium in Hütteldorf.
