A ‘response’ is needed in the Cup match against Traiskirchen

Austria Wien gastiert am Samstag um 17:30 Uhr im Rahmen der zweiten Runde des UNIQA ÖFB Cups beim Regionalligisten FCM Traiskirchen. 

Following the 0–1 defeat in the rescheduled fourth-round match of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga against WSG Tirol, the disappointment amongst all the Veilchen was understandably great:

“We were all – the players, the rest of the coaching staff and I – angry and disappointed after the match against Tirol that we hadn’t performed to our full potential. Despite all the disappointment, however, it is important that there is a sense of unity within the club. In phases like this, we are very self-critical, but at the same time we believe in our strengths – because we have already shown that we can do better,” says Austria coach Stephan Helm.

The performance in the home match against WSG Tirol has already been analysed; on Friday morning, Austria completed their final training session at the Generali Arena training ground, and on Saturday afternoon the ‘Veilchen’ will travel directly to the ARBÖ Arena in Traiskirchen for the cup match:

“We’ve clearly outlined what we need to improve. The team put in the necessary physical effort against WSG Tirol, but we need to be more precise and consistent in our play – for example, the spacing between players was often off. It’s important that we see a certain response on the pitch in Saturday’s cup match so that we can build up positive energy again,” explains Helm.

Opponents FCM Traiskirchen saw a change of manager during the week, with Jürgen Halper taking over from former LASK manager Thomas Darazs. The clash with the Lower Austrians will, amongst other things, see a reunion with former Austria Vienna players Philipp Hosiner, Max Sax and Thomas Ebner. “This match comes at just the right time so that, three days later, we can prove we’re capable of much better. It’s important for us to play our own game and progress to the next round,” emphasises the Austria coach.

The Violets will take to the pitch in their new crimson synthetic kit.
