Lisa Makas is leaving Austria Wien in summer 2025 after two and a half years as sporting director. The 33-year-old is relocating in the summer for personal reasons and is therefore stepping back from her day-to-day work. ‘I have loved every second, every minute of being part of Austria and it would of course be a very nice story for me personally if I could say goodbye with a title,’ said Makas ahead of the Cup final on Saturday.
The 65-time international joined Austria Wien as an active player in January 2022 and later ended her highly successful career with the Violets. She then took over as team manager and acted as assistant to the sporting director before taking over in December 2022. Her first official act was to hire coach Stefan Kenesei, and she later brought Katharina Schiechtl, Virginia Kirchberger and Carina Wenninger as well as Lena Triendl and Dominique Bruinenberg to Austria.
‘I started this job two and a half years ago with my heart and soul and have loved every second, every minute of being a part of Austria. But the Cup final at the weekend will be my last game with Austria Wien. I have more or less subordinated my whole life to the sport. Now the time has simply come for me to make a decision for myself, so I'm going to change my place of residence and that's ultimately the reason why I can no longer continue in this role. It was a decision that had to be made with a heavy heart. For me personally, it would of course be a very nice story if I could say goodbye with a title,’ says Lisa Makas.
A decision on the replacement will be made in the coming days.
