The visitors from Vienna got off to a good start. As early as the 3rd minute, Lotta Cordes had the first shot of the match, but her effort ended up straight in the arms of the Salzburg goalkeeper. Just a few minutes later, there was another dangerous moment: in the 7th minute, Cordes once again came close to scoring inside the penalty area, but went down just before she could get a shot away. The Veilchen’s subsequent follow-up attempts came to nothing.
After this early period of pressure, the game settled down somewhat. It wasn’t until the 20th minute that the Viennese posed a goal threat again: following a throw-in, Tatjana Weiss tried her luck with a long-range shot, but it went over the bar.
Shortly afterwards, the hosts also made their first dangerous impact. In the 25th minute, a free-kick from the Salzburg side created danger in the penalty area; a player got her head to the ball – but it sailed just over the bar. Just a minute later, a Salzburg attacker broke strongly through the Violets’ defence and got a shot away, but this ball also went wide of the goal.
As the match progressed, the action shifted increasingly into the Violets’ half. The Salzburg side sought the goal more frequently, but their finishing remained lacking in confidence. In the 33rd minute, Modesta Uka delivered a corner into the penalty area; Tatjana Weiss met the ball with a header but narrowly missed the target. Just a minute later, a Salzburg player launched a dangerous run towards the Violets’ goal, but Schiechtl managed to thwart the attack at the last moment.
In the 39th minute, the Viennese capitalised ruthlessly on a mistake: a back pass from the Salzburg side fell short, Lena Triendl reacted in a flash, sprinted in and finished. The ball ended up in the net – 1–0 to the Violets.
Even after the break, the Mozart City side tried to equalise. In the 53rd minute, things got dangerous following a Salzburg corner, but the follow-up shot went wide of the goal. In the immediate counter-attack, the Viennese had a good chance: following a free-kick from Uka, Škorvánková tried her luck with a shot, but only struck the outside of the goal.
Five minutes later, the Violets had another chance from a corner, but Uka’s follow-up shot sailed over the bar. Salzburg continued to press and repeatedly sought a way forward, but the Violets’ defence cleared the attacks. In the 64th minute, Cordes had the chance to seal the win, but her shot went just over the bar. Two corners from Škorvánková in the 70th minute also failed to yield a goal.
In the closing stages, the Viennese tried to add to their lead: in the 77th minute, Elisa Pfattner crossed to Courtney Strode, but the Salzburg defence managed to thwart the attack in time. Four minutes later, the Violets had another scare when a Salzburg shot came towards goal – but goalkeeper Jasmin Pal reacted brilliantly and made a confident save.
After an intense and hard-fought match, the score remained 1-0 to the Veilchen, who thus took three vital points home from Salzburg.
