Austria Wien deservedly won 2-0 in their duel with their namesake from Lustenau. Andreas Gruber scored both goals, Christian Früchtl saved a penalty by Lukas Fridrikas at the score of 1-0.
After the win in Banja Luka, Austria continued their Bundesliga campaign in Lustenau, with coach Michael Wimmer able to call on Manfred Fischer, Lucas Galvão and Reinhold Ranftl, who were all injured after the European Cup. Tin Plavotić replaced Matteo Meisl in central defence. Matthias Braunöder and Muki Husković (starting debut since injury) started in place of James Holland and Aleksandar Jukić.
Austria Lustenau drew 2-2 in Hartberg in the 1st round, coach Markus Mader made three changes in the starting eleven: Leo Mätzler, Yadaly Diaby and Baillo Diallo moved into the new 3-4-3 formation compared to the previous week.
The hosts from Vorarlberg had two good chances at the beginning. Anderson just missed a promising header, a shot by Lukas Fridrikas was saved by Christian Früchtl (3rd, 9th). In between, a shot by Plavotić went just past the goal (6th). After a free kick by Dominik Fitz, Andreas Gruber hit the bar, Muki Husković tipped a shot by Fitz just over the goal (11th, 13th).
Austria was able to assert itself again and again against a very deep Lustenau team. A shot by Gruber was blocked by Domenik Schierl, Manuel Polster put a Stanglpass by Gruber just beside the goal (22nd, 25th). In the 28th minute, however, the Violets were allowed to cheer: Andi Gruber converted a cross from Reinhold Ranftl perfectly into the far corner for 0-1.
Austria kept the pressure on, a beautiful combination via Braunöder and Polster ended with Gruber, but he could not put the beautiful cross into the goal (34th). Fischer and Braunöder missed the goal with long-range shots (37th, 39th). Shortly before the break, Fridrikas was brought down in a duel with Lucas Galvão in the penalty area, but Christian Früchtl saved the penalty - very well from the violet keeper (43rd). A superior Austria (15-3 shots) went into the dressing room with the 1-0 lead.
Lustenau came out of the dressing room a bit more offensive, but the Viennese had the first chances. Schierl held a shot by Polster, a great counterattack with a finish by Gruber was also defused by the Lustenau goalkeeper (49th, 53rd). On the other side, Früchtl was on the spot for a shot by Yadaly Diaby (53rd).
After one hour Michi Wimmer changed: James Holland, Aleksandar Jukić and Marvin Potzmann came into the game as well as debutant Silva. Fischer, Fitz, Husković and Polster left the pitch. Johannes Handl blocked a shot by substitute Tiefenbach with his heel in front of the line (68th). Austria found the right answer to the strongest phase of the Vorarlbergers, Andreas Gruber scored his second goal after a cross from Silva - 0-2 in the 72nd minute.
Matthias Braunöder put in a shot from the turn, Schierl was able to deflect the ball (77th). In the 85th minute Aleksandar Jukić missed a penalty after a foul on Johannes Handl, a goal by Silva was disallowed due to an offside position. Already in injury time, Früchtl prevented Yadaly Diaby's follow-up goal, Austria from Vienna finally deserved to win 2-0 in Vorarlberg.
