The diary from Antalya provides daily insights into the training camp. What was said, how they trained, who excelled. You won't miss a thing here.
In addition to players, coaches and staff, Franz Schiemer also flew into the training camp on Wednesday. The 38-year-old has been working in an advisory capacity for the Violet coaching team again since the summer and will be in Turkey until Sunday. "I analyze the games and try to point out good and bad things. You can see it a bit as a mirror from the outside, as an unbiased point of contact", explains Schiemer, who also discusses match ideas with the coaching team.
"I try to go into a lot of detail in my analysis, really go through every situation, which there is often not enough time for otherwise, and also work individually with one player or another." Normally Schiemer, who played for Austria himself from 2005 to 2009, is in Vienna once a week, otherwise he also has the opportunity to watch all of Austria's training sessions and matches from home. "I try to be a contact person for Stephan from the outside who gives honest input and with whom he can exchange ideas at eye level away from his usual environment at Austria."
After both the morning training session and the afternoon session, some of the coaching team stayed on the pitch and played exciting matches of soccer golf. Each participant in turn was allowed to choose a specific target on and directly next to the pitch. The winner was the player who hit all the targets in succession with the ball.
In both cases, the five-time Austrian champion and cup winner Franky Schiemer was unbeatable. In the morning, athletics coach Daniel Gangl and Stephan Helm landed on the podium, while in the second edition, Co Christian Wegleitner and analyst Daniel Gasser took the places.
Training was a little shorter in the afternoon due to tomorrow's test against NŠ Mura (1:00 pm/local time: 3:00 pm). The head coach wants to "keep the intensity high right from the start in this test. It's about bringing our game onto the pitch as much and for as long as possible. We want to use every minute to improve our players".
Around the test matches - the second will take place on Thursday (1:00 pm/local time: 3:00 pm) against Serbian Conference League participant FK TSC - a lot of work is being done in the fitness area in Turkey to lay the foundations for the spring. "There will also be technical and tactical content, which will focus entirely on those phases of the game in which we have room for improvement."
However, the right mix is important for Helm: "The focus on the pitch has to be top, of course, and it is. Nevertheless, the players should also have the opportunity to enjoy a coffee together in the sun."
