Two penalty goals by Monschein against Ried

Two penalty goals by Christoph Monschein secured Austria Wien’s deserved 2-1 home win against the team from Ried. The goal for Ried through an own goal by Maudo Jarjué did not change the outcome of the game.

Peter Stöger made four changes to the starting line-up after the game against LASK. Erik Palmer-Brown made his season debut, Markus Suttner was fit again and started on the left in the back four. Thomas Ebner started as defensive central midfielder in a 4-1-4-1 system. Georg Teigl started on the right wing, while captain Alexander Grünwald returned to his traditional position in the central midfield.

SV Guntamatic Ried celebrated a 3-2 win against WSG Tirol at the start of the tipico Bundesliga, coach Gerald Baumgartner once again placed his trust in the winning team and made no changes.

Monschein scored from the penalty spot

Austria Wien started dominant, Manprit Sarkaria had the first chance to score in the third minute. After a free kick by Markus Suttner, Sarkaria came to a volley, but it was too central. Ried had their first chance to score after 52 minutes, Constantin Reiner headed a corner from Stefan Nutz and Patrick Pentz made a great save. The “Violets” started a counterattack via Suttner, Monschein and Wimmer, who played a one-two with Pichler. Wimmer passed to Monschein, who was fouled by Lercher in the penalty area - another penalty - Christoph Monschein scored again. 2-0 in the 65th minute.

Only a minute later, Monschein was close to a hattrick, his lob after the pass from Sarkaria went just past the goal (66’). Benedikt Pichler started a solo on the left, his cross was blocked to the corner (69’). Manprit Sarkaria made shot from great distance, Ried goalkeeper Samuel Sahin-Radlinger fished the ball out of the corner (74’). After the subsequent corner by Suttner, Pichler headed over the goal (75’).

Stöger made three changes during the second half. Maudo Jarjué, Aleksandar Jukić and Vesel Demaku replaced Michael Madl, Patrick Wimmer and Georg Teigl. Markus Suttner came to a finish after a corner, his shot missed the goal (88’). Maudo Jarjué extended a corner kick by Murat Satin into his own goal - 2-1.

The goal created tension at the end of the game, but Austria Wien had the last chances. Aleksandar Jukić failed at Sahin-Radlinger with a long shot, Christoph Monschein was stopped during a counterattack at the last moment (90’+2’, 90’+4’). The “Violets” got the first three points of the season.
