Center back Johannes Handl has been out of action for several weeks due to a viral infection. The 27-year-old is currently only allowed to exert himself moderately and is not expected to be able to return to team training for several months.
“The most important thing is that I'm feeling better now. I hope that I can start training more intensively again as soon as possible and subsequently help the team on the pitch,” says Johannes Handl, who is now keeping fit under the guidance of the purple physio team: strength training, ergometer sessions, and moderate running training are currently on the program. His inflammation levels are now being checked at regular intervals, and as soon as the values allow, his training intensity will be increased again.
The viral disease, which manifests itself in swelling of the lymph nodes, among other things, became apparent in mid-August before the away game against LASK, and since then the defender has been unable to play. In the following weeks, ‘Joe’ underwent various examinations in consultation with the Austria Vienna medical team, which ruled out more serious conditions and led to a clear diagnosis.
