Violets in second cup round after 4-0 win

Austria Wien clearly defeated SG FAC/USC Landhaus 4-0 away from home to advance to the second round of the SPORTLAND Niederösterreich Women's Cup. The Violets secured the victory with goals from Dominique Bruinenberg, Florentina Satra and a brace from captain Verena Volkmer.

The last rays of late summer sun were still shining over the Landhaus pitch when the whistle for the first round of the Cup sounded at 6 pm. The Violets immediately started to play very offensively and gave their opponents little time to settle into the game. The first goal was scored in the third minute: Kathi Schiechtl headed a corner kick from Dominique Bruinenberg towards the opposing goal. Volkmer helped out, coolly converted and gave her team a 1-0 lead (4').

2-0 after 15 minutes

In the next quarter of an hour, the Violets continued to try hard to extend their lead - with success. After several dangerous moves by the Violet women, Dominique Bruinenberg finally managed to get the ball into the hosts' goal (17'). The 2-0 was followed by several attempts on goal by the home side. A Landhaus player managed to win the ball and storm towards the Violets' goal. Instead of a shot on goal, however, she passed to her teammate, who shot the ball wide of the goal guarded by Larissa Haidner (28'). As a result, the second division team failed to score a follow-up goal.

Landhaus fail against the violet defense

The team from Favoriten, on the other hand, continued to exert pressure and gave their opponents few chances. After a foul, Kathi Schiechtl showed off her skills with a powerful free-kick, but was denied by the Landhaus goalkeeper (33'). Whilst the Spielgemeinschaft were still unable to get past the Violet defense, the Veilchen continued to shoot at their opponents' goal. However, another goal was yet to come. Moser's shot went over the goal (34'), Schneeberger's ball landed directly in the goalkeeper's hands (34').

Shortly before the break, the hosts' most dangerous move so far came when Haidner was unable to take the ball directly in a chaotic situation. However, the subsequent shot also missed the purple goal.

First goal for Satra, brace from Volkmer

The second half began as the first had ended, with the visitors playing much more offensively. This style of play was soon to be rewarded: Florentina Satra managed to win the ball and score directly with a powerful shot to make it 3-0 (50'). The 18-year-old was also able to celebrate her first goal for the Violets. Around ten minutes later, Verena Volkmer scored the final goal. After a strong dribble in the opponent's penalty area, the captain had a free shot and scored to make it 4-0 (62'). The match was thus decided and the Violets were able to secure their place in the next round of the Cup.

The second round will be played next weekend, the draw will take place on Monday, September 9th at 11:00 am.
