After the 0-0 draw at home against Wolfsberger AC, coach Michael Wimmer gave his players two days off, and since Wednesday the team has been preparing intensively for the away match against LASK: "The days off were important to regenerate and clear my head, because the last few weeks have been very intense, especially mentally. After the elimination in the European Cup, there was also a certain frustration," explains coach Michael Wimmer.
For Austria, it was the first full week of training after several 'English weeks' with eventful European Cup nights: "We were not able to work much on content in the last few weeks of training - unfortunately, we now have more time for that during the week again, we would of course have preferred to progress in the European Cup. You could already see in the last games that we still have to improve a lot - for that we will use the training sessions all the more now," says Wimmer.
LASK, third in the preseason, has not started the season as desired with its new head coach Thomas Sageder with five points from the first four games, most recently the Linz side played out a 1-1 draw away to WSG Tirol:
"It would be a big mistake to be blinded by individual games, LASK has a really good team with high individual quality. We know that a big challenge awaits us on Sunday, but we also know that we can stand up to it," described Michael Wimmer, who still remembers well the last away match against LASK (1:3 defeat):
"In the championship group we didn't perform well in the first half in Linz, in the second we did better and we need to build on that: full steam ahead, aggressive and as fast as possible - we want to seek our salvation in the offense."
