Wimmer: "Excitement for Sunday is huge!"

In the 22nd round our Violets will welcome WSG Tirol to the Generali-Arena next Sunday (17:00). Sporting director Manuel Ortlechner and coach Michael Wimmer spoke at today's press conference about the season so far and the all-important game on Sunday.

Coach Michael Wimmer

...on the 2:1 away win in Linz: "We didn't get into the duels in Linz in the second half, didn't have much ball possession. We discussed these issues. We have to play our game for the full duration. The system doesn't matter. The players make the system, every player interprets his role differently."

...on the game on Sunday: "The energy the fans are giving us is sensational. We've only lost one home game since August, and they've played a huge part in that. It will be important to get the spark going right away. There's nothing cooler than games like this, where you're on the line with high blood pressure. We wanted it to be exciting right to the end. The anticipation is brutal! We look at ourselves, we can't influence other games. I really appreciate Thomas Silberberger (coach, WSG Tirol) as a colleague and a person. The words he chose when announcing his retirement at the end of the season are very honest and authentic. It will be a tough game for us."

Sporting director Manuel Ortlechner

...on Sunday's match: "Even the away sector will be violet, the team will need that support. We're doing a lot of calculations at the moment, but I say: We have to look at ourselves. If it doesn't work out on Sunday, life goes on. The season lasts longer than 22 rounds, we can also make it to Europe via detours."

...on the season so far: "Our start wasn't ideal, but a lot has happened within the team after the defeat to Legia Warsaw. We've gradually found our feet and scored consistently, as you can see from the last 13 or 14 competitive matches. The boys have almost always done a great job in recent weeks. We have to continue that now."

Personnel news

Marvin Potzmann, Fisnik Asllani, Marvin Martins and Luca Pazourek are out injured. Manuel Polster will not return to the squad until Monday. Muharem Husković is questionable due to adductor problems. Ziad El Sheiwi, Florian Wustinger and Marko Raguž are still out of contention. Reinhold Ranftl returns to the team after his yellow card suspension.
