Goals from Manfred Fischer, Abubakr Barry and Maurice Malone secured the seventh league win in a row, Austria Wien overtook their city rivals and moved up to second place in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga table. Florian Flecker scored the only LASK goal, Filip Stojković saw red in the closing stages after an assault.
Stephan Helm had to make do without the suspended Dominik Fitz, with Andreas Gruber moving into the starting eleven. Tin Plavotić kept his place in central defense, while Lucas Galvão was still out through injury. Marvin Martins was back in the match squad for the first time since the second round.
LASK lost in the European Cup against FK Borac Banja Luka in the last minute on Thursday. Lukas Jungwirth replaced the regular goalkeeper Jörg Siebenhandl in goal. Otherwise, the starting eleven was the same as in the last Bundesliga match against Red Bull Salzburg.
Both teams neutralized each other at the start and it took 20 minutes for the first shot on goal of the game. However, it was immediately on target, much to the delight of the 1,500 Violets in attendance. A feed from Reinhold Ranftl reached Maurice Malone, who found Manfred Fischer on the edge of the penalty area. The captain curled the ball perfectly into the corner via the inside of the bar - 1-0 for the Violets.
Although LASk had a little more control of the game, the Linzers were unable to create any scoring chances against a solid Violet defense. After half an hour, Aleksandar Dragović and Matteo Pérez Vinlöf needed treatment but were able to continue quickly. In the 41st minute, Valon Berisha shot from long range, but Samuel Şahin-Radlinger fished the ball out of the corner in his 100th Bundesliga game, the home team's first shot on goal. LASK increased the pressure towards the end of the first half, but without really becoming dangerous. Austria went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
The second half started perfectly, with Abubakr Barry volleying home Reinhold Ranftl's cross to make it 2-0 - the Gambian's first Bundesliga goal. Referee Christian-Petru Ciochirca then had to stop the game for the third time due to excessive smoke.
Maurice Malone was one step too late against goalkeeper Jungwirth, and Philipp Wiesinger's header from Andi Gruber's free-kick narrowly missed the target (62', 65').
Aleksandar Dragović and Matteo Pérez Vinlöf left the pitch after 70 minutes, while Johannes Handl celebrated his comeback and made his first appearance of the season for the Violets. Hakim Guenouche also came into the team. Nik Prelec got stuck on a good counter-attacking opportunity (71'), while substitute Florian Flecker scored shortly afterwards to make it 2-1 and open up the game again (72').
Marvin Potzmann came on for Andreas Gruber and Austria struck back immediately. Barry and Ranftl danced past the Linz backline with a one-two on the right, and Barry's superb stangl pass made it easy for Maurice Malone - 3-1 for the Violets (78'). Malone failed to beat Jungwirth with a shot (82'), Maximilian Entrup flicked the ball over the goal (87').
Florian Wustinger and Marko Raguž for Fischer and Malone were Stephan Helm's final changes. Guenouche had the chance to make it 4:1 in the 90th minute, but his shot was blocked for a corner and a lob from Prelec was cleared off the line by Ziereis (90.+8). In the 99th minute, Filip Stojković kicked Marko Raguž, who was lying on the ground, a clear red card for the Linz player.
The Violets played their 8th competitive match win in a row safely home and won confidently 3-1 at LASK.
