Aleksandar Dragović and Dominik Fitz returned to the team after their suspensions. Philipp Wiesinger and Marvin Potzmann took their places on the bench. Otherwise, head coach Stephan Helm relied on his familiar starting eleven. Andreas Gruber was still missing due to a muscle injury.

SK Rapid had to cope with two absentees at short notice: Isak Jansson missed the derby due to illness and Nenad Cvetković had to miss out with a slight injury. Ange Ahoussou and Andrija Radulović made their debuts in the starting XI. Jonas Auer, Mamadou Sangaré and Matthias Seidl also made their debuts after their successful European Cup performance on Thursday.

Early lead for Rapid

An intense Vienna derby got off to the worst possible start, with Rapid taking the lead with their first opportunity. After a pass from Dion Beljo, Matthias Seidl scored to make it 1-0 (5'). After a corner kick, Beljo headed over from close range, but Samuel Şahin-Radlinger made a great save (12'). Austria replied with a shot from captain Manfred Fischer. Maurice Malone provided the assist, but the ball hit the bar (15'). A shot from Matteo Pérez Vinlöf grazed the aluminium (28').

Shots from Seidl and Beljo were deflected out for corners (40', 42'), Şahin-Radlinger prevented Radulović from making it 2-0 (43'). The Violets struggled against Rapid, who were deep after taking the early lead, 1-0 at the break.

Not enough offence

Even after the break, Austria mostly had the ball, but hardly managed to penetrate the dangerous area. Only in the 58th minute did Abubakr Barry get a shot on target, but Rapid goalkeeper Niklas Hedl was able to keep the ball out. Stephan Helm made two changes after an hour: Philipp Wiesinger and Konstantin Aleksa came on for Tin Plavotić and Nik Prelec.

A few mistakes in the build-up made the equaliser project more difficult, with a header from Barry and a shot from Johannes Handl missing the target (58', 65'). The hosts did better at the other end, with Mamadou Sangaré making it 2-0 in the 70th minute.

Manfred Fischer and Matteo Pérez Vinlöf made way for Marko Raguž and Lucas Galvão, with Moritz Wels replacing Barry as the last change. Malone had a chance after an assist from Aleksa, but was unable to finish (88'). Galvão shot over the goal after a cross from Reinhold Ranftl, who was making his 250th appearance in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga (90.+1).

Austria were beaten 2-0 in the 345th Vienna derby.
