Dominik Fitz joins Minnesota United

After 19 years with Austria Wien, Dominik Fitz is moving to Minnesota United in the US with immediate effect. The 26-year-old midfielder has played for all of the Violets' youth and academy teams since 2006, led the Young Violets to the second division, and provided numerous fabulous moments in violet for the first team in recent years. Thank you for your dedication, your loyalty, your magic foot, and your violet heart. All the best and much success in the future, Fitzi!

On September 7, 2006, exactly 6923 days or 989 weeks ago, the then seven-year-old Dominik Fitz joined Austria Wien. Fitzi came up through the violet youth until 2013 and then made the leap to the academy before making his debut in the Regionalliga Ost with the then Austria Amateure in 2016. In 2017/18, he played a significant role in the promotion to the 2nd league and deservedly celebrated his debut in the Bundesliga that season.

19 years of passion & magic

On March 31, 2018, he came on as a substitute for Christoph Monschein in the 73rd minute of the home game against Altach. Even then, he wore the number 36 jersey, which he had worn until the end. When asked why he chose 36, he once replied dryly, “because Harry gave it to me,” referring to equipment manager Harald Ertl. No airs and graces, Dominik Fitz just wanted to play soccer back then. That hasn't changed to this day. He scored his first goal in the Bundesliga on May 27, 2018, in the last round of that season. In the 4-0 victory over Red Bull Salzburg, Fitz scored in the final minutes from a seemingly impossible angle.

Fitz played a total of 81 times for Austria Amateure/Young Violets in the Regionalliga Ost and the 2nd division, scoring 27 goals and providing 27 assists. He has played 204 games for the violet professionals since 2018, scoring 54 goals and providing 63 assists. Fitzi was directly involved in a goal every 125 minutes. This was one of the reasons why Dominik Fitz was a violet crowd favorite. His dedication and violet heart were always clearly visible to Austria Wien fans.

It is difficult for him to say goodbye. It is also difficult for the Austria family. And yet we say thank you. For 19 years with Austria Wien, for passion, for goals, for victories, for magical moments. All the best and much success on your future path, Fitzi!
