Helm: ‘We want to reward ourselves for this season!’

On Saturday afternoon (5:00 pm), the Veilchen welcome Blau Weiß Linz for the season showdown in the sold-out Generali-Arena. With a win against the Upper Austrians, they will at least be runners-up. Coach Stephan Helm and captain Manfred Fischer reviewed the season at today's press conference and are looking forward to the most important match of their respective careers to date.

Coach Stephan Helm on...

...opponents Blau Weiß Linz:
‘The game starts from scratch. We have to bring our absolute willingness to the pitch, want to be active and support each other. At the same time, we need to keep a cool head. We have to find the right mix. We won't underestimate Linz. You don't have to be a professor to correctly assess the situation. In Gerald Scheiblehner, they have a coach who I can say always prepares his team well for games like this. Their performance against Salzburg last week was testament to that.’

...the current hype:
‘This team is never banned from thinking. It's desirable that they think. The more, the better. Of course we realised that there was more hype again this week. We were able to create a sense of euphoria. But hype is not interesting for us. We will deal openly with the result from Graz. Information always leaks out, of course. Of course there will also be reactions in the stadium. You have to know that in advance. That makes it all the more important to keep our focus. But we also don't want to hide and suppress what is possible.’

...his personal emotional state:
‘The whole journey over the season is just as important to me as tomorrow's game. We can reward ourselves for everything tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to this game. In terms of my career, tomorrow's game is obviously a special one, but I don't dwell on that too much. We have to try to go into the game as relaxed as possible.’

Captain Manfred Fischer on...

...the upcoming opponent:
‘It makes me proud that we're in this situation. We all know that times have changed in the past. To make the mistake of not taking our opponents seriously now would be fatal. I know the team well enough to know that we will give everything from the very first second. We want to win this game and secure second place. If we manage that, it would be a fantastic thing. Anything more would be a dream for us. If we finish runners-up, we'll be delighted.’

...the support of the fans:
‘The fans have been a huge factor all year. Especially at the beginning, when things weren't going so well, they always supported us. Right up to the end. At 2:1 against Sturm, you saw what it means when 15,000 people cheer us on. We carried the ball into the goal together. If the atmosphere tomorrow is anything like the Sturm game, we'll win.’

...his personal career highlight:
‘From my side, it's the most important day of my career. We have worked towards this situation. I'm proud of what we've achieved as a club. I know my tasks for tomorrow very well and have learnt a lot over the last 2.3 years. Personally, I'm going in with a cool head.’
