Important win in Klagenfurt

In the clash between the Austrias, Austria from Vienna won 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Andreas Gruber. The Viennese were denied a clear penalty just after the start of the game. The Violets secured their first away win of the season and their first game without conceding a goal.

Coach Stephan Helm kept the same line-up as in the home win against GAK after the international break. Philipp Maybach was once again included from the start, while Abubakr Barry was not yet in the squad. Muharem Husković stayed at home due to illness.

Peter Pacult only made one change despite the defeat against LASK, with striker David Toševski starting in place of midfielder Christopher Wernitznig.

Austria Vienna started strongly & denied a clear penalty

Austria Wien clearly dominated the game at the start with over 70 % possession, but goalkeeper Simon Spari defused a first cross from Hakim Guenouche in front of the lurking Nik Prelec (3'). Jannik Robatsch fended off Lucas Galvão's header from Dominik Fitz's corner with his hand, but, quite incomprehensibly, referee Sebastian Gishamer's whistle remained silent. VAR Manuel Schüttengruber also saw no reason to intervene, a questionable decision (7').

A shot from Manfred Fischer missed the target, as did a header from Maurice Malone (15', 19'). Spari fished a header from Dominik Fitz out of the corner, the perfect cross came from Malone (21'). A good shot from ‘Fitzi’ narrowly missed the target (30').

After half an hour, Klagenfurt became more active and Samuel Şahin-Radlinger had to intervene for the first time when Nicolas Binder fired in his first shot in the 36th minute. Robatsch cleared a shot from Fischer with his foot this time and Spari parried the follow-up shot (39'). Şahin-Radlinger made a great save to keep out a shot from Christopher Cvetko (42'). In stoppage time, Toševski put a header next to the goal and the game went into half-time goalless.

Andi Gruber with the golden goal

Marvin Potzmann came on at the start of the second half in place of Philipp Maybach. Dominik Fitz tested Spari again shortly after the restart, but his powerful shot was a little too centred (47'). The Carinthian goalkeeper was also able to keep out a header from Manfred Fischer (51'). Lucas Galvão received his 5th yellow card and will miss next Saturday's match against WSG Tirol. Fitz scored in the 54th minute to make it 0:1, but the goal was disallowed due to a foul by Maurice Malone.

Nik Prelec missed a shot after an assist from Potzmann (59'), after which Stephan Helm made a change. Guenouche and Malone left the pitch, Matteo Pérez Vinlöf and Andreas Gruber came on. Substitute Christopher Wernitznig tried his luck with two shots, but both missed the target (65‘, 73’). A shot from Prelec was deflected out for a corner (73'), after which Cristiano came on for Manfred Fischer.

Stephan Helm's team took the lead in the 77th minute when Andreas Gruber took a pass from Dominik Fitz with his chest and scored wonderfully from a turn to make it 0-1. Ten minutes before the end, Marko Raguž replaced Nic Prelec, who had fought valiantly. Austria from Vienna stood firm in defence, Cristiano tried to outwit Spari with his heel in the 4th minute of stoppage time, but failed. Wernitznig had the last chance of the game, and Austria Vienna ultimately deserved to win 1-0.
