Tin Plavotić headed home from a corner to give the Violets the lead, but Daniel Maderner equalised for the Styrians shortly after the break. Substitute Marko Raguž scored the much-celebrated winning goal for the Violets in the 91st minute.
After the women's historic win in the ÖFB Cup against SKN St. Pölten, it was the men's turn. Head coach Stephan Helm made one change after the defeat against Hartberg. Kang Hee Lee started behind the strikers, with Manprit Sarkaria moving up front. Noah Botić was not in the squad due to a minor adductor injury.
GAK celebrated their first win of the season against Altach the week before, and Ferdinand Feldhofer also made only one change: Sadik Fofana started in place of the injured Alexander Hofleitner.
After a great choreography by the east stand, neither team was able to find the net in a very hectic opening phase. A first shot from Reinhold Ranftl went well over the goal (14'). At the other end, Samuel Şahin-Radlinger prevented Ramiz Harakate from giving the visitors the lead (19'). After a corner from Manprit Sarkaria, our number 24 scored in the 24th minute: Tin Plavotić made it 1-0 for the Violets with his upper body.
A shot from Abubakr Barry went wide of the goal (32'). After another corner, Taeseok Lee played the ball to Kang Hee Lee, but his shot was saved by Jakob Meierhofer in the Graz goal. Aleksandar Dragović's follow-up shot went wide (34'). Shots from Ranftl and Kang Hee Lee went wide (37', 38'), with Austria now clearly on top.
However, this had no effect on the score before the break, with the score remaining 1-0 at half-time.
The second half got off to an unpleasant start, with Daniel Maderner, who came on at half-time, scoring the equaliser in the 52nd minute after a counterattack. The Violets pushed for the lead again, but a header from Plavotić went wide (59'). It was the goalscorer's last action, as he made way for Dejan Radonjić in the 64th minute.
Şahin-Radlinger was on hand to clear a dangerous cross from Tio Cipot (69'). Kelvin Boateng replaced Kang Hee Lee, and Marko Raguž came on for Sarkaria. A header from Philipp Wiesinger went wide (82'), but then, in stoppage time, the moment arrived. Reinhold Ranftl drove the ball forward on the right after Manfred Fischer won possession, and his cross was laid off by Johannes Eggestein to Marko Raguž, who scored a spectacular goal to make it 2-1 for the Violets.
A final free kick from Eggenstein went over the bar (90+8'), and Austria ultimately deserved their 2-1 win over Grazer AK.
