Austria Wien welcomes Austria Klagenfurt to the Generali-Arena on Sunday at 14:30. Sporting director Manuel Ortlechner and coach Michael Wimmer talk about their expectations and give a personnel update.
After the 3:3 in the derby, Austria are not only still unbeaten at the Allianz Stadium since the opening in 2016, as well as for ten derbies in total, but also after three games in the champions' group. 2:2 against LASK, 3:3 against FC Red Bull Salzburg and 3:3 in the away derby are the results against three top opponents so far.
Everyone agrees that even more would have been possible due to the strong performances and the course of the games. The Veilchen conceded a late equaliser against LASK in the 90th minute, against Salzburg in the 91st minute and in the derby in the 84th minute.
Sporting director Manuel Ortlechner: "The insight from the first three games in the championship group is that the teams are operating at a very similar level. I think that our way absolutely fits. The boys have really taken a liking to the way we play football now. We are very pleased that this has been achieved in a short time. The boys are very focused. If we manage to be highly active and intense from minute 0 to 95, then every opponent will have a really hard time against us."
Coach Michael Wimmer: "We want to win our home game. We just want to reward ourselves this time and play the game bravely to the end. We have discussed and analysed the scenes that led to the late goals against. That's certainly something that can be improved through training, by also being concentrated from the first to the last minute in training and maybe even doing an exercise afterwards in a tired state that requires the highest concentration. In general, our aim is to improve our game. If we bring our principles and - together with our fans - our energy to the pitch, I'm convinced it will be a good game."
Personnel news
Lucas Galvão (torn calf muscle) is not yet in team training, the centre-back is currently training individually. Doron Leidner (torn ankle ligament) and the four long-term injured players Muki Husković, Ziad El Sheiwi, Florian Wustinger and Marko Raguž are also out. Dominik Fitz (5th yellow) and Haris Tabaković (yellow/red in the derby) are missing suspended.
"We have proven very often that we can replace anyone. We have players who have been substituted recently - like Dovedan, Keles or Jukic - who have shown that they are there when we need them. They have trained well and are now getting the chance to prove themselves. I am convinced that they will put in a good performance on the pitch."
