Suttner: "We believe in our chance"

Austria Wien plays against LASK in Pasching on Sunday at 14:30. Captain Markus Suttner thinks the team is realistic about the overall situation. The 34-year-old talks about the chance for the first win of the season, young Austria Wien talents and newcomer Filip Antovski, who is also at home in the left-back position.

After six rounds, Austria is still waiting for its first win of the season. The tight situation in the standings offers the opportunity to make big leaps. Austria, for example, is only four points off fourth place.

"We assess the situation realistically. On the one hand, it's a madness that we're last, but on the other hand, we've often been close to deciding games for ourselves. Therefore, we will certainly not bury our heads in the sand. But we know that we have to improve in many areas," says Markus Suttner.

"If we implement our plan 100 percent over 90 minutes, we can win against LASK. " - Markus Suttner

LASK has also not started the new season the way it would have liked. The Linzers are two points ahead of us in eighth place, but the Violets are not fooled by the results:

"LASK has a very good team, created many scoring chances in all games, and was always the superior team. If we implement our plan 100 percent over 90 minutes, something is possible for us there as well. We're going to Linz and believe we have a chance to win," says the Austria Wien captain.

"We improved in the last couple of weeks." - Markus Suttner

Austria recently picked up a point in the derby (1-1) and against Sturm (2-2), and Suttner is positive about the development in recent weeks: "A lot has changed in the summer: the coaching team, the club management, the support staff around the team and the squad - it's normal that it takes a while for everything to find its bearings. With the exception of the European games, the performances have been okay throughout. In the last few weeks, things have been getting better and better," says Suttner.

In the two weeks of training during the international break, the team tried to take the next step. At the same time, Manfred Schmid gave some young Austria talents the opportunity to train with the pros. Markus Suttner himself comes from Austria's junior squad and knows how important it is to involve the academy players:

"You could tell the boys liked training with us. They showed very good approaches. Training sessions like this are important for their development, so they can get used to the physical robustness and the intense game that is required here."

"He has a lot of composure on the ball and can solve situations very well even under pressure." - Markus Suttner on Filip Antovski

Suttner himself has been set at the left-back position in all games so far. In the summer, Austria signed Filip Antovski (20), current captain of the U21 national team of Northern Macedonia, a new player for the same position. The 20-year-old had to wait a long time for his permission to play, but was recently able to play two games for the Young Violets. Suttner gained a positive impression of Antovski in training:

"Filip is a great guy. He is young, very committed and eager to learn. He has a lot of composure on the ball and can solve situations very well, even under pressure. I hope he stays fit and I'm happy to help him further in his development. I hope that Austria fans will have a lot of fun with him."
