For Lustenau, Pius Grabher returned to the starting line-up after his yellow suspension. In a 3-5-2 system, coach Markus Mader started Darijo Grujčić in central defence. Henri Koudossou and Emrehan Gedikli remained on the bench after the 0-4 in Salzburg.
The game started in a varied manner, Austria from Lustenau had the first chance: Torben Rhein got the ball rather accidentally in the penalty area, but his sharp Stangl pass went past friend and foe (5th). From this corner kick, Reinhold Ranftl had the chance to shoot wide, but the ball missed its target (10th). A shot by Jean Hugonet was saved by Christian Früchtl (13th). Haris Tabaković had gained a lot of self-confidence in the first game, and the former Lustenau player repeatedly took off. A shot from an acute angle went over, and after a Stangl pass from Ranftl, his finish just missed the far corner (18th, 22nd). Johannes Handl was often able to get into the limelight with sensitive passes, one of which landed with Ranftl, whose good cross was cleared for a corner at the last moment (25th).
An attack by Anderson on Manuel Polster could have been punished with a red card, but referee Christian-Petru Ciochirca left it at a warning (32nd). Lukas Fridrikas unintentionally hit Matan Baltaxa in the face with his foot. The Israeli was treated off the pitch, meanwhile Fridrikas scored in the 45th minute to give Lustenau the lead. Austria from Vienna went into the break with the narrow deficit.
In the second half, the Viennese immediately tried to equalise, Tabaković found himself in front of Domenik Schierl after a pass from Handl, but failed to score against the Lustenau goalkeeper (51st). Aleksandar Jukić shot over the goal after a pass from Fischer, a free kick from the central midfielder was saved by Schierl (58th, 62nd). After a corner by Matthias Braunöder, Tabaković extended with his heel, Hugonet deflected the ball onto his own crossbar (66th). Jukić failed after Braunöder's pass to Schierl, Tabaković put the ball next to the goal after an excellent pass from Dovedan (69th).
Austria was overwhelmingly superior and the equaliser was in the air. Michael Wimmer provided new impulses with a triple substitution. Can Keles, Romeo Vucic and newcomer Doron Leidner came into the game. After Keles and Vucic had done the groundwork, Tabaković scored in a trap, but Schierl saved in the nick of time (75th).
