Win on Michael Wimmer's debut!

Austria Wien won 3-1 against Austria Klagenfurt on the debut of new head coach Michael Wimmer. Haris Tabaković, who replaced the injured Dominik Fitz early on, laid the foundation for a deserved home win with a brace. Thorsten Mahrer's goal made it exciting again, but Can Keles restored the two-goal advantage in injury time. Austria overtook their rivals from Klagenfurt in the table and are now in 6th place.

Michael Wimmer went for a 3-5-2 system, with Christian Früchtl starting in goal as usual. The three-man defence was formed by Johannes Handl, Marvin Martins and Matan Baltaxa, with Reinhold Ranftl and Manuel Polster starting on the flanks. Lucas Galvão was missing due to an adductor injury, Lukas Mühl was on the bench. Matthias Braunöder, Manfred Fischer and Aleksandar Jukić started in central midfield. Nikola Dovedan and Dominik Fitz were to provide offensive power. Haris Tabaković was not yet ready for a start with muscular problems in his calf.

Austria Klagenfurt lost narrowly 1-0 to LASK in the ÖFB Cup the previous week and coach Peter Pacult changed his starting eleven in three positions: Phillip Menzel replaced Marco Knaller in goal, Christopher Wernitznig and Florian Rieder started in place of the suspended Nicolas Wimmer and Sebastian Soto.

Substitute Tabaković put Austria in the lead

The home team dominated the game from the start, but a first shot by Aleksandar Jukić went wide of the goal (3rd). A corner by Jukić caused trouble for the Klagenfurt goalkeeper Menzel (13th). The Carinthians had their first chance through Andy Irving, but the ball was deflected for a corner (26th). Dominik Fitz was fouled several times in the first minutes, the playmaker had to be treated on the field and replaced in the 23rd minute. Haris Tabaković came into the game earlier than planned, Michael Wimmer switched to his preferred 3-4-3 system.

The joker stung immediately! Nikola Dovedan won the ball on the right side after a pass from Johannes Handl, brought it to the middle where Tabaković finished well; 1-0 for the Veilchen in the 31st minute. The centre-forward had another chance shortly afterwards, but Menzel was able to defuse his good shot (38th). The score remained unchanged until the break, and Austria went into the dressing room with a narrow lead.

Tabaković added another, Keles fixed the home victory!

The second half began with a bang. After a cross from Jukić, Tabaković took the ball with his chest and tucked it past Menzel to make it 2-0 - what a story (49th). After Ranftl's pass, another Tabaković shot went over the goal (56th). Kosmas Gkezos had an opportunity for the Carinthians after a corner kick, but Marvin Martins finally managed to clear (64.). Manuel Polster shot over the goal in the 66th minute.

Thorsten Mahrer reduced the score to 2-1 in the 78th minute with a header after a corner kick by Christopher Cvetko and made the game exciting again. Wimmer brought on Lukas Mühl for Aleksandar Jukić, shortly before Can Keles replaced Nikola Dovedan. The Violette back line held its own against Klagenfurt's final offensive. Tabaković failed to beat Menzel in the 92nd minute, but laid on for Can Keles shortly afterwards, who made the final score 3-1 (90th+3). More than 11,000 Austria fans in the Generali-Arena were able to celebrate a home victory at the start of spring.
