First home win of the season to mark the 300th game

Captain Markus Suttner is about to play his 300th competitive match for Austria Wien. The Violets want to start the second half of the season with a win at home against Ried (Saturday, 5:00 p.m.): "We are certainly a step further than in the first duel in Ried. I think we are on the right track," says Austria coach Manfred Schmid.

In ninth place, Austria Wien is three points behind third place and three ahead of last place after eleven rounds, so a lot is still open in the standings at the halfway point of the basic round: "We know what leaps are possible with victories. A success on Saturday would be a step in the right direction. It is a very important game for us. We have to work hard for success - the guys do that really well in training. We are optimistic that we can get our first home win against Ried," says coach Manfred Schmid.

Captain Markus Suttner, who missed the last game against Admira with an injury, has a special match awaiting him, namely his 300th competitive game for his Austria, which he once joined as a 14-year-old:

"It's nice to reach the 300 mark. There have been many great moments: the Cup victory in my first season in 2009, the championship title in 2013 - as well as many international appearances and, last but not least, my return last year. If we show the same energy and passion against Ried as we have in recent weeks, I'm optimistic that we'll decide the game in our favor," said Suttner.

„We still have a score to settle with Ried“ - Manfred Schmid

In the first season duel, Austria had to admit defeat 1:2 in the season opener at Ried. "We still have a score to settle with Ried. We definitely want to get three points. We are certainly a step further today than in the first encounter, but we also know how difficult it can be against a defensively well-organized opponent. We have to pick up where we left off in recent weeks. We want to go to work with a lot of passion," says Manfred Schmid, who has been meticulously preparing for the game with his team:

"We worked on our determination in the final third during the week. We've come up with a few things for Saturday's game and hope we can put them into practice." For Suttner, the first home win is overdue: "We have played very consistently in recent weeks, but have not yet rewarded ourselves with a win at home. As a team, we have to learn from the last few games and situations and bring home the win this time. With successes, self-concept will also grow."

Personnel News

In terms of personnel, the coaching team can draw from a full complement, with Vesel Demaku also back in full team training and ready for action. Striker Muharem Huskovic had to sit out a training session: "But it's not that bad, we'll have to wait and see on Saturday whether he can play," explains coach Manfred Schmid.
