After the victory in Rijeka the tipico Bundesliga was waiting for the “Violets”, Thorsten Fink made no changes in his starting line-up compared to the game on Thursday.
Gerald Baumgartner, Coach of SV Mattersburg, brought two fresh players after the 1:1 against SKN St. Pölten: Pink replaced Gruber on the right wing, Maierhofer began instead of Bürger as striker.
SV Mattersburg tried to prevent the usual ball possession of Austria, the “Violets” were not impressed and were able to free themselves over and over again. The first shot of the game came from Erhardt, Patrick Pentz did not have to intervene (13'). On the other side Kevin Friesenbichler missed a cross by Raphael Holzhauser (15'). The captain tried it with a long shot shortly after, Kuster was on the spot (18'). Friesenbichler and Heiko Westermann had good chances after corners, but failed (23'). Abdul Mohammed Kadiri rescued in the other penalty area against Pink. After the following corner Pink came to a finish, Pentz parried the strong shot. Maierhofer utilized the follow-up shot but the goal was not acknowledged because of an offside position (24').
Petar Gluhakovic tried to surprise Kuster with a shot from the right but the Mattersburg goalie saved to one of eight corners in the first half (34'). With the last corner Raphael Holzhauser shot directly on the right post (43'). Already during stoppage time Raphael Holzhauser shot a free-kick to Dominik Prokop after a foul, his cross utilized Kevin Friesenbichler via head to the violet lead (45'+2'), right after the goal the teams went into the halftime break.
Thorsten Fink had to make a change to his team: Thomas Salamon could not go on because of adductor problems, the 22-year-old Croat Marko Pejic celebrated his tipico Bundesliga debut for Austria. Mattersburg started well into the second half, Perlak scored in minute 53, after assist by Pink. Holzhauser took on a cross from Ismael Tajouri-Shradi, Höller threw himself in the shot and prevented the renewed lead (55'). Two shots by Tajouri-Shradi were not dangerous (58', 59').
Dominik Prokop had to make way for Ibrahim Alhassan after 62 minutes. Alhassan and Friesenbichler missed a free-kick cross by Holzhauser (68'), Felipe Pires came after assist by Friesenbichler a step too late (72'). In exchange, the substitute Prevljak did not bring the ball in the goal (73'). Okugawa, also a substitute, scored after a solo from the left side and brought Mattersburg in the lead (79'), Prevljak went even further with a strong free-kick – 1-3, the game was turned (81').
With Christoph Monschein for Raphael Holzhauser Thorsten Fink drew his last option, Kuster parried a good finish from Alhassan (89'). Another goal by the “Violets” did not happen, Austria lost against SV Mattersburg with 1-3.
