Allstars defeated Dominic Thiem’s 1. TFC for a good cause

As part of the grand opening of the new stadium in Wr. Neustadt Austria Wien’s Allstars played against Dominic Thiem’s 1st TFC Matzendorf. The ‘Violets’ around Herbert Prohaska, Toni Pfeffer and Tomas Jun prevailed in a high-class game with 7-3, the revenue went to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

After the violet Allstars had prevailed 6-1 against Dominic Thiem's 1st TFC last September, revenge was announced. The first big game in the newly opened stadium in Wr. Neustadt was again the ‘Violets’ against the selection of Austria's tennis ace, which unfortunately could not be there.

After overcoming a virus, Thiem understandably subordinated everything to training and regeneration. “I'm extremely sorry for cancelling: My 1st TFC is playing against the Austria Wien Allstars in the new Stadion in Wr. Neustadt on Sunday, I was extremely excited about this match,” he said on Facebook on Saturday. We certainly wish Dominic a speedy recovery and all the best for the upcoming tasks in the Davis Cup.

Schachner double pack and a lively Jun

But even without Thiem the event for the Make-A-Wish Foundation went perfectly, after the game the ‘Violets’ were, of course, the target of many autograph hunters and also gladly took the time for photo requests. Tomas Jun and Joachim Standfest took part in the Austria Wien Allstars for the first time. Herbert Prohaska also made his debut as a guest player.

In a good, open and especially for all sides funny game the Allstars showed some great scenes again and again and entertained the spectators, but the 1st TFC kept up well. Before the break the Allstars were in the lead after a penalty by Andreas Lasnik and a header by Tomas Jun - 2-1.

During the second half, the Allstars then put on more pressure, Walter Schachner scored a double and increased to 4-1. First the three-time champion scored after a cross by Jun, shortly after he was on the spot after assist by Thomas Flögel. After a goal by the other side, Flögel was the successful himself after assist by Jun, afterwards the 1st TFC was able to overcome Wolfgang Knaller, in the violet goal, for the tired time.

After his two goals Schachner was also successful in assisting Herbert Gager, who completed the half a dozen for the ‘Violets’. The final goal scored Paul Scharner, who casually kicked the ball into the goal after a dream pass by Gager - 7-3.

A more than successful day in Wr. Neustadt, with many goals, some Austria Wien legends and above all high proceeds, which are used for the fondest wishes of seriously ill children. Because Violet is more!
