Austria Wien signs Alexandar Borkovic until 2022

Austria Wien and central defender Alexandar Borkovic move forward together. The 19-year-old extended his expiring contract with the ‘Violets’ for three more years until summer 2022. “We are very pleased with the extension of his contract. Alexandar embodies everything that makes a modern central defender,” said Sports Director Ralf Muhr.

Borkovic has been playing for the ‘Violets’ since 2007 and went through all junior and academy teams. With the ‘Austria Amateure’, he made the leap to the A-Team 2016/17 and so far, he completed 21 official games.

In autumn 2017, he scored his first goal for the professionals in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League during the home game against AC Milan, most recently he scored his first goal against WAC in the Bundesliga. In the second Bundesliga he played ten games with the “Young Violets” this year.

Alexandar Borkovic: “I am very happy to be able to play for Austria Wien during the next few years, I grew up here and have learned a lot even beyond football. On Sunday we will give everything to end this season positively, and then I’m sure we will go into a successful future together. I want contribute to this as a part of Austria Wien.”

Ralf Muhr: “I am very pleased that he is making a statement by extending his contract and wants to continue his development with Austria Wien. We are absolutely convinced of his qualities. Alexandar is one of our own rookies, who, despite his young age, already has experience in the Bundesliga and in the European Cup, he also embodies everything that makes a modern central defender.”
