No goals in the 332nd Vienna Derby

In a game that was rare in terms of highlights, Austria Wien and Rapid Wien left the pitch with a 0-0. The gap to the sixth place is three points away with two laps before the end of the regular round.

Erik Palmer-Brown returned to the starting line-up, but coach Peter Stöger had to do without Benedikt Pichler because of an ankle injury. Johannes Handl took a seat on the bench, Marco Djuricin started as the striker for the first time. Otherwise, the team remained unchanged after the victory against St. Pölten.

Rapid Wien coach Dietmar Kühbauer also made two changes. Maximilian Hofmann started in defense instead of Leo Greiml, Yusuf Demir replaced Kelvin Arase.

Fast start, then little to mention

The game started intensely, shots by Filip Stojkovic and Marco Djuricin were blocked (2’, 4’). Then the defensive took command, it took until the 23rd minute before Marco Djuricin tested Richard Strebinger with a long shot. Rapid Wien’s goalkeeper made the save, Patrick Pentz remained the winner on the other side against Ercan Kara (34’). Taxiarchis Fountas shot over the goal shortly after (35’).

Manprit Sarkaria tried a shot on the edge of the penalty area, but the ball went over the bar (39’). The guests from Hütteldorf had slightly more possession of the ball, Austria Wien won most of the duels. The game went into the break with only a few highlights.

No goals even after the break

Rapid Wien had a better started after the break, Ercan Kara shot over the goal from close range (52’). After an hour, the most accurate Rapid striker tried again - his shot past the goal.

Austria Wien came under a bit of pressure, Peter Stöger brought in Thomas Ebner for Christoph Monschein. Strebinger fended off a shot by Eric Martel, Marco Djuricin scored with the follow-up shot, but was standing offside – the goal didn't count (65’). Aleksander Jukić replaced Georg Teigl, Patrick Wimmer moved back into the defense. Fountas’ shot went over the goal, a shot by Eric Martel also missed (80’, 81’). In the 90th minute, substitute Christoph Knasmüllner headed the ball onto the crossbar, Patrick Pentz parried Kara's follow-up shot. The game ended without a winner; Sturm Graz is waiting next week.
