Palmer-Brown has impressively demonstrated that he has absolute leader qualities at a young age when he captained the US team at the U20 World Cup 2017 in South Korea. “The biggest success of my career so far,” he emphasizes.
The US-American, who is under contract at Manchester City, landed in Vienna. Austria Wien has a purchase option in summer. “Now I want to prove myself at Austria Wien weekend after weekend. Austria Wien has fought for me, that impressed me. The infrastructure is great and the club wants to play for the top places long term - and I want that, too,” explains Palmer-Brown.
During his debut against Hartberg he saw red, therefore he was not able to play in the Vienna Derby: “That was my fault. We've lost points unnecessarily in the last few weeks, but we're professionals and it is our job to make it better during the next few games. We know that we have the necessary quality,” emphasizes the central defender.
The 22-year-old wants to make his contribution, has great ambitions, but at the same time puts himself fully in the service of the team: “I want to be in the starting eleven and win games. I'm working hard during training to earn my place in the team and I want to consistently deliver that even the US team cannot look past me. Ultimately, however, the success of the club is all that matters. It's a team sport and I want to be a good team player.”
His role on the pitch could be important: “The coach told me that he wants me to be a leader and control the defence. Organizing the entire team is an important defence task because we have the whole field in front of us.”
The competition in the central defence could be great after the return of the injured players Alexandar Borkovic, Michael Madl and Christian Schoissengeyr. “We have a normal working week in training and have to prove ourselves every day to get into the starting eleven. The coach will always do what is best for the team,” says Palmer-Brown.
The American has already played in the MLS, in Portugal, Belgium and Holland and collected very positive impressions in the first few weeks at Austria Wien: “The coaching team and the team have good chemistry behind the scenes. We expect more of ourselves, that's clear, we continue to be very positive, because: We have a clear game idea that we simply need to implement better. We have to improve both offensively and defensively. Being constant is one of the hardest things in life - that must be our goal.”
