FK AUSTRIA WIEN IS IN THE UEL-GROUP STAGE AFTER 2:1 AGAINST TRONDHEIM

During the second half Alexander Grünwald brought the “Violets” in the lead. Not even the fast equalizer by Gytkjaer could bring the Viennese out of their concept. Larry Kayode made the match-winning goal and shot FK Austria Wien into the group stage.

Both coaches didn’t see much reason to change up their teams compared to the first leg game. Thorsten Fink didn’t make any changes at all while Kåre Ingebrigsten brought Rashani for Gersbach.

Strong first half

Rosenborg Trondheim started with a lot of pressure. After already three minutes they had their first chance for a goal. A few minutes later FK Austria Wien also found into the game. Felipe Pires got through on the right side but Alexander Grünwald shot the ball just wide (5.). Konradsen tried a volley by the penalty box line but his shot went by Robert Almer’s goal (9.). A shot from Grünwald was saved by the Norwegian defence. Jens Stryger Larsen got a shot on target but Kwarasey made the save (13.).

Midtsjø answered with a great shot which went by the goal (20.). The game was balanced but FK Austria Wien had the better chances. Alexander Grünwald fired a free-kick over the wall but Kwarasey rolled the ball over the bar (29.). Larry Kayode headed the ball just wide the post after a corner from Raphael Holzhauser (30.). Shortly after, the ball actually ended up in the goal but Kayode was standing offside.

Rosenborg answered with a long distance shot but Almer saved it (37.). Right after, Lucas Venuto conquered the ball but his finish was too central on the goal (38.). The lead for the “Violets” would have been more than deserved but the first half ended 0:0.

Even stronger second half

It took a little while until the second half gathered pace, shots from Pires (48.) and Jensen (51.) were shot far by the goal. In minute 55. Robert Almer had to save the “Violets” from a backlog. During a duel with Midtsjø Christoph Martschinko got the “Violets” a free-kick. Raphael Holzhauser shot the ball right over Grünwald’s head who scored – 1:0 (58.).

The joy only lasted shortly when the referee gave a penalty shot to Rosenborg. Even though Lukas Rotpuller touched the ball in the penalty box with his hand, the referee missed a foul on him right before. Gytkaer shot, Almer guessed the corner but didn’t have a chance of a save – 1:1 (59.).

FK Austria Wien was a little shaken after the quick equalizer but after a corner from Trondheim, Kayode got the ball, went by Skjelvik and slammed the ball into the goal – 2:1 (69.). And with that Rosenborg was already lacking three goals for the promotion. The Norwegians tried everything but either Rotpuller was on the spot (71.) or they only hit the bar (77.). David de Paula who came into the game for Venuto had a good chance but his shot went over the goal.

Before the end of the game Almer made a save after a shot from Gytkaer (84.) and another shot by the striker went by the goal (89.) And just like that FK Austria Wien was standing in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League.

Rosenborg BK – FK Austria Wien 1:2 (0:0)
