With Austria Wien Jeggo finally made the leap into the Australian national team, he played his first game on November 20th 2018 in the 3-0 in Adelaide against Lebanon. In the years before, he was sat on the bench several times (Asia Cup 2016 and Confed Cup 2017).
The blond, whose parents are from England and who was born in Vienna, has made his debut in the Austria Wien jersey only during the second half of September because of an injury of the syndesmosis ligament. Since then, he has become an integral part of the team.
In the last game before the winter break, the memorable 6-1 derby victory, Jeggo scored his first goal for the ‘Violets’. The news of the triumph and his goal even reached his native land Australia. The derby victory of Austria Wien was a big topic on the other side of the world.
One day after this double success story, the website socceroos.com.au reported on Australia’s team player abroad: "Jeggo stars in Vienna derby: With the score locked at 1-1, Jeggo popped up in the 35th minute to give his side the lead effectively opening to flood gates to a derby romp."
In the article they also showed a tweet by Austria Wien in German about the goal of our number six.
With the highest derby victory of the ‘Violets’ in Bundesliga history, the defensive midfielder has realized one of his biggest sporting goals before Christmas. "I wanted these three points," says the 26-year-old.
Athletic resolutions and goals for 2019 for the Derby winner are: "to stay healthy, to always work on myself and to develop for the team."
For Austria Wien to come to where we all want to go: in the European Cup and in the UNIQA-ÖFB Cup final at home on May 1st. "These are the two goals that are firmly in our heads. Even though autumn did not always go as we desired, we are still in a good place in the standings," explains Jeggo.
In spring, the team wants to secure the participation in the championship round of the first six clubs, and then everything is possible, explains the tireless fighter. For Austria Wien the championship starts on February 22nd (Friday, 7:30 PM) against LASK.
