Austria Wien wants to set a sign and prove that hard work is rewarded accordingly. Sports Director Ralf Muhr: "This premature extension is a nice signal for both sides and shows that after a serious injury it is worthwhile to fight your way back."
Martschinko has been with Austria Wien since July 2015, completing 86 official games, but in Oktober 2017 he injured himself severely in the knee joint (cruciate ligament rupture) and could not play because of long-time problems. After this almost endless ordeal, he is now working on his comeback.
Muhr: "We are convinced that he will continue to contribute to the achievement of our goals. We also assume that he will be able to call up his potential again very soon and show off his talent."
Martschinko, whose contract would have run until this summer, has also matured and approaches his tasks very humble. "You can see his joy in every training session and we strongly believe that in the future Christoph will once again be an option for the ÖFB national team," explains our Sports Director. So far, the 24-year-old went through all rookie teams in Austria, had 23 appearances in the U21.
Christoph Martschinko: "I am very grateful for the trust everyone has in me and very proud that I can continue to play for Austria Wien. Without the patience and support of the entire medical department, this would not have been possible. At the same time, I also see it as my duty to give something back to the club during the following years. And not to forget with Austria Wien I have all the possibilities to develop at a very high level."
