Austria fans tell how they became Violets!

On the occasion of our 109th birthday on March 15th, we asked the Austria Wien family for their first memories of Austria Wien and asked them to tell us how and when they became fans. We received countless moving stories that let us look back together.

Harald, ‘My first visit to the stadium was in 1983, it was just a great team back then. Final score 7-1 against Sturm; scorers: Polster (2), Magyar (1), Nyilasi (3), Degeorgi (1).’

Roman, ‘I've always been a fan, even more since the 1998/99 season. My first visit to the stadium was with my school colleague: Austria Wien won 4-1 against Vorwärts Steyr. I am a “Violet” thanks to my family (dad and uncle) and because Christian Mayrleb is just a cool guy.’

Fabian, ‘Thank God my dad kept taking me to the stadium. That's how I discovered my love for this club, I'm proud to be with the right club.’

Hannes, ‘Austria Wien - damn I love you.’

Franz, ‘Since 1977: I drove some people to the stadium with a bus, 20 minutes before the end I had to go back to the bus.’

Herbert, ‘I became an Austria Wien fan 60 years ago when I was born. My whole family are “Violets”. I also watched the final at the time.’

Alex Manuela, ‘How exactly that happened I don't know anymore, but my being a "Violet” is becoming of age this year. Austria Wien has accompanied me through all ups and downs for 18 years, and vice versa. My best moments: 2013 championship title, the foundation of #planetviola as an official fan club and of course all the fun training I visited.’

Fabian, ‘Christian took me to my first game away against Mattersburg in November / December 2005. The season was crowned with the double win. Since then I’m a “Violet” until I die!’

Wilhelm, ‘It was 1961, I just got my first soccer shoes and scored my first goal in the championship game against Meidlinger Wacker Wien, our neighbour asked me if I would like to go to the Prater Stadium at that time. My father allowed it. Once in the stadium, the teams came on the pitch to warm up. A player with dark skin and a purple jersey with a white collar came out. He played with the ball like there was nothing easier. He fascinated me so much that I have been a “Violet” ever since. It was Murli Jacare. Forza viola.’

‘It was passed on to us by our brother-in-law, who has always been an Austria Wien fan.’ Christine
