Maudo Jarjué: 1 helpful year & 2 national teams

Maudo Jarjué always worked hard in his first, not always easy season with Austria Wien, accepting thankfully any help from the people around him in the Generali-Arena and the Viola Park. The reward is that he now plays regularly under coach Peter Stöger and is in great demand with two national teams: Guinea-Bissau and Gambia. The 23-year-old explains why.

Maudo Jarjué has played in all four Bundesliga games so far, was in the starting line-up in the two away games against LASK and Tyrol, as well as in the first Cup round: "It motivates me a lot and makes me happy that I am now playing regularly in the first team," says Jarjué.

The good performance at Austria Wien aroused interest of two national teams: Guinea-Bissau and Gambia. "I have already been in contact with both national teams. It motivates me a lot that they both believe in me. It is not an easy decision for me. I will consider it carefully and discuss it with my family." Jarjué's parents are from Gambia, but he grew up with his grandfather in Guinea-Bissau, where he also learned to play football.

"Like one big family"

Maudo Jarjué feels strengthened by an instructive first season at Austria Wien: "The first year was difficult, everything was new for me: the country, the language & the whole environment, but the people around me at Austria Wien were always very positive and helped me to adapt quickly. "

In the previous season, the central defender trained with the first team for most of the week, but mostly played for the Young Violets in the 2nd division (15 appearances/2 goals). Young Violets coach Harald Suchard and his neighbors in Viola Park Benedikt Pichler and Johannes Handl helped him a lot in his first year: "We are like one big family, they helped me a lot in the first year, Benni translated important documents for me, for example", Maudo Jarjué tells, who also quickly grew fond of the city of Vienna:

At the side of Palmer-Brown and Michael Madl

"I love going to the zoo and I also go to the first district or Mariahilf every now and then. I feel really good: The most important thing is that I have the feeling that our fans respect me." The relationship with his two defensive colleagues Erik Palmer-Brown and Michael Madl is also marked by respect:

"Both can read the game well, are experienced and have good technique. It is a pleasure to play at their side because they are very positive people," says Maudo Jarjué, who knows that after the 2-0 win against WSG Tirol, there is still a lot of work ahead: "It was very important for us to get the three points. Coach Peter Stöger gave us good instructions. We always fight together as a team."
